Madagascar Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Ivato International Airport (TNR) in Antananarivo on May 20th, 2027.

Day 2: After breakfast we’ll drive east to Andasibe National Park. A journey of approximately 145 km, lasting about four hours. Upon arrival, we will make a visit to the VOI Reserve, a small local wildlife reserve managed by local people. We will photograph indris, diademed sifakas, wooly lemurs, reptiles, amphibians and different insects such as the famous giraffe necked weevil.

Day 3: Today we will visit the Maromizaha Forest, also known as the “dragon tree forest.” A dense humid evergreen forest with more than thirty species of mammals, including 14 species of Afrosoricida, 8 species of Rodentia, 1 species of Soricomorpha, 3 species of Carnivora, 3 species of bats, and 12 species of lemurs.

Day 4: We visit the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park and specifically the Analamazaotra Special Reserve where we will walk among the lush forest to see a variety of animal and plant life. The reserve is home to lemurs called indri-indri, who have a very specific “yell”. This reserve will leave us with numerous photos of the colourful wild flowers and the ancient tall trees. After the visit we drive back to Antananarivo to catch an evening flight to Toliara and the southwest coast.

Day 5: After breafast we will drive directly to Isalo NP, crossing through a much drier region. Along the way, we will pass through landscapes typical of southern Madagascar, with scattered baobabs, traditional villages, and tombs. Before reaching the village of Ranohira, you will pass through Zombitse National Park, located in the heart of a sapphire-rich region, considered by experts to be one of the most gemstone-rich areas in the world. Once at the accomm in Isalo we will check in and rest for the afternoon before shooting sunset nearby.

Day 6: Full day of photography exploring Isalo National Park. An amazing landscape of sandstone rocks cut by deep canyons. In these canyons we can find ring-tailed lemur, Verreaux, Sifaka and the brown lemur along with birds and chameleons in the Canyon des Makis. We can also take the short Namaza trail along a scenic route to a magnificent natural swimming pool where we can just relax and swim.

Day 7: We will shoot sunrise nearby the hotel and then, after breakfast, we will drive back to Tulear via the same route. We will be dropped off directly at the airport and fly back to Antananarivo (Tana for short).

Day 8: Today we will fly to Morondava and check into a coastal beachside hotel. From here we will photograph the famed Baobab Alley for sunset before returning for a late dinner and bed.

Day 9: Early morning sunrise back at the famed Boabab Alley to ensure we get the best of both sunrise and sunset at the location. We will then continue on to Kirindy – a small village in the heart of the Menabe Antimena Protected Area, where we will check into our accommodation before starting to explore the Forest. Today will be a pretty chill day with only two short walks planned within the Menabe Antimena Protected Area. We will then also go on a night walk in the Kirindy forest, composed of drought-adapted plants and animal species such as baobabs, the mouse lemur, as well as various birds and bats.

Day 10: Today we will explore more of the Kirindy forest before returning to Morondava. Depending on the conditions and timing we may be able to stop once again at the Baobab Allee to admire the sunset.

Day 11: Today, early morning, we have an optional mangrove excursion where we can see freshwater crabs and jumping fish on the mangrove-lined river.

After lunch we will be taken to the airport in order to catch our inland flight for Antananarivo. We will have our final group dinner this night back in Tana.

Day 12: Today, May 30th, is departure day. Depending on your flight home there may be time to explore the city of Antananarivo or we can transfer directly to Ivato International Airport.
