In this next TRVL° adventure, we’re headed to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦 AKA the “Polar Bear Capital of the World.” As winter descends upon the small town, so do dozens of polar bears, gathering along the coastline as they wait for Hudson Bay to freeze. This is the perfect time of year to photograph these incredible Arctic predators in their natural environment, as well as other wildlife like Arctic foxes, snowy owls, ptarmigans, Arctic hares, and even red foxes playing in the winter snow.
In classic TRVL° style, we’ve fully designed this adventure around the photography experience. We’ve teamed up with local professional wildlife photographers and guides who tailor their vehicles for people exactly like us. Rather than travelling in large Tundra Buggies or six-passenger vans, we’ll explore in dedicated 4×4 trucks with just three photographers per vehicle, alongside an experienced driver / local photography guide. This smaller setup offers greater flexibility, easier access in and out of the vehicle, and, where conditions allow, the opportunity to photograph directly through an open window.
When back in Churchill, we’ll stay in a private B&B, giving us the freedom to hang out, cook together, edit our images, share photo reviews, or simply relax and chat about all things travel and wildlife photography.
With five full days, plus two half days, dedicated to exploring the wilderness around Churchill, we’ll have plenty of time to observe polar bear behaviour, work with changing Arctic light, review and edit images as we go, and capture everything from intimate wildlife portraits to striking environmental compositions.
If photographing polar bears in the wild is on your bucket list, this is the adventure for you. Join us on this next TRVL° Photography trip into Canada’s remote Arctic wilderness.
One note in particular to this adventure. Our minimum group size is 5 participants. Nick will be joining this group. Our maximum group size is 10. In this case, Greg will also join and we will organise a second B&B (if need be).

Polar Bears Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada (YWG) on November 06th, 2028.
Day 2: Fly to Churchill on a charter aircraft. This domestic flight is included in the trip price. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to our private B&B, settle in, and get ready for the days of wildlife photography ahead. Depending on our arrival time and local conditions, we may have an opportunity to explore the town or head out in search of our first polar bears.
Day 3: We’ll spend our first full day exploring the wilderness surrounding Churchill in search of polar bears and other Arctic wildlife. Travelling in dedicated 4×4 trucks with just three guests per vehicle, we’ll enjoy a more flexible and intimate photography experience than traditional large-group wildlife tours.
With each guest having their own door and window, there’s room to work on compositions from different angles and, where conditions allow, get out of the vehicle to photograph the surrounding landscape and wildlife. All encounters will be conducted according to the guidance of our experienced driver-guides, with safety remaining the priority.
Day 4, 5, 6 & 7: Rinse and repeat with four more full days dedicating our time to finding polar bears, observing their behaviour, and photographing them against the dramatic backdrop of the Arctic landscape.
These days will be shaped by the wildlife, weather, and changing light. Churchill’s low November sun can create beautiful atmospheric conditions, offering opportunities for everything from intimate bear portraits to wider environmental compositions. We’ll also keep an eye out for other wildlife, including red and Arctic foxes, snowy owls, ptarmigans, and Arctic hares.
Back at our private B&B, there’ll be time to relax, prepare meals, edit photographs, and share image reviews with the group. And once darkness falls, we’ll keep watch for the Northern Lights. If the aurora appears during our stay, we may head out to photograph it from a suitable location, weather and conditions permitting.
Day 8: On this final day, November 13th, we’ll make the most of our morning with a half-day wildlife photography excursion before boarding our included charter flight back to Winnipeg.
Upon arrival in Winnipeg, you can either connect with a flight home or spend an additional night in the city before flying out on November 14. We can help arrange any additional accommodation and airport transfers required.
*This itinerary is subject to a change by one or two days, as the charter flight schedule for winter 2028 has not yet been released.

What’s the accommodation like?
The private B&B in Churchill will be our home away from home throughout this Arctic adventure. Reserved exclusively for our group, the house offers a relaxed and welcoming space to unwind between long days out photographing polar bears and exploring the surrounding wilderness.
The B&B has six bedrooms, each offering flexible sleeping arrangements with either two separate beds for twin sharing or a double bed for couples. There are two bathrooms (with showers and toilets) shared among the group, along with a comfortable living room where we can relax, share stories from the day, and enjoy conversations about all things travel and wildlife photography.
The open kitchen is available for making coffee and tea, preparing meals, and spending time together. Breakfast and light lunches are included throughout our stay, dinners are not included and we’ll either eat out or cook as a group.
Having our own private base gives us the flexibility to settle into a relaxed routine, review and edit our images, share photography tips, or simply put our feet up after a rewarding day in the Arctic. What is TRVL° All About?
In short, the motto is simple: “Explore. Adventure. Capture.”
At its core, TRVL° is built around travel photography, with every itinerary thoughtfully designed to create strong photographic opportunities while also encouraging real connection with the places we visit. You will come away with compelling images, but more importantly, with meaningful experiences, lasting memories, and stories that go far beyond the frame. We focus on stepping into the unknown, discovering new places, and building a genuine connection with the world around you.
TRVL° is not a traditional photography workshop, and that is intentional. Our journeys balance guided photography moments with space for independent exploration, creativity, and discovery, allowing photography to become both a creative tool and a way of engaging more deeply with each destination. We work closely with local photographers, tour operators, and guides to support and uplift the communities we visit, creating authentic cultural connections for our participants. If this resonates with you, you’re in the right place.
If you’re curious to learn more about our philosophy & approach, you can visit our About Us page for more detailed information.
