TRVL° TIBET

11 DAYS | €4997 | ADVENTURE SERIES | GROUP MAX 10

Including all meals & visit to Mt. Everest’s North Face

11 Days | From €4997 Twin Share

This photography adventure takes us into one of the most fascinating and culturally rich regions of the Himalayas. Our 11-day journey combines spectacular mountain landscapes with intimate encounters in traditional Tibetan villages, ancient monasteries and the spiritual traditions that make this part of the world so unique.

We’ll be working with a 100% locally owned Tibetan tour operator who shares our passion for photography. As with all our adventures, it’s important to us that we support local communities and contribute directly to the people and tourism industry of the regions we visit.

We begin in Lhasa photographing the city’s temples, monasteries and daily life. From the pilgrims circling Jokhang Temple and the iconic Potala Palace to the lively debates of Sera Monastery, there are endless opportunities for cultural and documentary photography.

Leaving Lhasa, we cross the Tibetan Plateau towards the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier, exploring traditional villages and historic towns including Gyantse, Shigatse and Sakya. One highlight of our adventure takes us to the northern side of Mount Everest, where we’ll aim to photograph the world’s highest mountain at sunrise and sunset before continuing towards Shishapangma and Peiku Tso Lake.

Like all TRVL° adventures, photography is built into every part of this journey, from dramatic mountain landscapes and Buddhist monasteries to local portraits, rural life and spontaneous encounters along the way.

While this adventure does not involve demanding trekking, much of our journey takes place above 3,500m, with some mountain passes exceeding 5,000m. Good general fitness and proper acclimatization are important. For more information, check out our Fitness Level guide in the TRVL° Trip Style segment of this page.

If travelling to and photographing Tibet is on your bucket list, this is your opportunity to experience it with us. Join TRVL° Photography for another unforgettable adventure, this time across the Tibetan Plateau.

Will there be a local support?

Yes. We are working with a 100% locally owned and operated Tibetan tour company with extensive experience organizing journeys across the Tibetan Plateau. Their team brings invaluable local knowledge, strong community connections and a deep understanding of Tibetan culture, traditions and the unique challenges of travelling at high altitude.

Our local partners also understand the specific needs of photographers and have worked closely with us to develop an itinerary that prioritizes photography rather than traditional sightseeing. Throughout the adventure, they will manage the local logistics, transportation, permits and guiding, allowing us to focus on creating the best possible experience for our TRVL° photographers.

One of the overall goals of TRVL° is to empower the local travel and photography communities we work with around the world. We dedicate significant time to researching and building relationships with trusted local partners who know their destinations best. By working directly with a Tibetan-owned company, we’re helping support the local tourism industry while ensuring that Tibetan people, culture and expertise remain at the heart of this adventure.

TRVL° Trip Style

Adventure Series: The TRVL° Photography Adventure Series pushes beyond the familiar, taking photographers into rugged environments, unpredictable conditions, and some of the world’s most spectacular landscapes. These expeditions are built for those who value immersion over convenience, combining rewarding hikes, remote camps, and unforgettable photographic opportunities where the experience is every bit as important as the images.

On this Tibet expedition, we spend 11 days exploring the Tibetan Plateau, travelling from the ancient monasteries and bustling streets of Lhasa to remote Himalayan villages and the spectacular northern face of Mount Everest. Along the way, we’ll photograph traditional Tibetan culture, Buddhist monasteries, pilgrims, rural communities, turquoise lakes, and some of the highest mountains on Earth. Our itinerary is designed around photography, with opportunities for sunrise, sunset, street photography, local portraits, and spontaneous encounters throughout the journey.

While this expedition does not involve demanding trekking, travelling through Tibet presents its own unique challenges. Much of our journey takes place above 3,500m, with mountain passes exceeding 5,000m and an overnight stay near Rongbuk Monastery at approximately 5,000m. Long driving days, remote locations, changing mountain weather, and the effects of altitude all require flexibility, preparation, and a sense of adventure. These challenges are also part of what makes exploring the Tibetan Plateau such a rewarding photographic experience.

How is the Accommodation?

Accommodation on this Tibet expedition is a combination of comfortable hotels in the larger towns and simpler accommodation in the more remote Himalayan regions. Throughout our journey, we’ll stay in carefully selected hotels in Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse, Sakya and Old Tingri, providing a comfortable base after long days of exploration and photography.

Most hotels offer private bathrooms, comfortable beds, and the usual amenities, although standards can vary as we travel further into the Tibetan countryside. Our most adventurous overnight stay will be near Rongbuk Monastery, at the foot of Mount Everest, where we’ll stay in a traditional high-altitude tent hotel. Facilities here are more basic, with shared bathroom facilities and limited comforts, but the opportunity to photograph Everest at both sunset and sunrise makes this a highlight of the entire expedition.

All accommodation is based on twin share. A single supplement may be available for guests who prefer Your Own Room, subject to availability. Please note that private rooms and facilities may be more limited in the Everest region. The cost of single supplement for this adventure is €749. This can be added to your final payment invoice.

Unlike our trekking expeditions, there is no need to carry your luggage over long distances. Our local Tibetan team will provide private transportation throughout the journey, allowing you to bring your camera equipment and personal belongings without the physical demands of carrying everything on your back. You’ll only need to carry your photography gear during our daily explorations and shorter walks.

Level 3 – Moderate to Active:

This Tibet adventure is designed for travellers with a reasonable level of general fitness who are comfortable exploring remote destinations and spending extended periods at high altitude. Unlike our Himalayan trekking adventures, the majority of our journey is completed by private vehicle, with shorter walks through villages, monasteries, historic towns, and scenic viewpoints.

The main challenge is the altitude. We begin in Lhasa at approximately 3,650m and gradually travel higher across the Tibetan Plateau, eventually reaching the Everest region at nearly 5,000m. At these elevations, even relatively simple activities such as climbing stairs or walking uphill can feel considerably more demanding than at sea level.

Weather conditions can also change quickly, with strong winds, intense sunshine, cold mornings, and potentially freezing overnight temperatures in the higher regions. Long driving days on mountain roads and limited facilities in remote areas are also part of the experience.

Good general fitness, proper acclimatization, and a flexible attitude are essential. We have deliberately included three days in Lhasa before travelling higher, allowing time to adjust to the altitude. However, altitude sickness can affect anyone regardless of fitness, and participants should consult their doctor about the risks of travelling to these elevations before booking.

If you’re looking for a physically demanding Himalayan trekking expedition, this is not that kind of adventure. We have Trekking Annapurna for that 😉

Instead, Tibet offers the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most extraordinary high-altitude regions without the need for extensive hiking. The results will be exceptional: dramatic Himalayan landscapes, ancient Buddhist traditions, remote Tibetan communities, and the chance to photograph Mount Everest from its spectacular northern side.

What is TRVL° All About?

In short, the motto is simple: “Explore. Adventure. Capture.”

At its core, TRVL° is built around travel photography, with every itinerary thoughtfully designed to create strong photographic opportunities while also encouraging real connection with the places we visit. You will come away with compelling images, but more importantly, with meaningful experiences, lasting memories, and stories that go far beyond the frame. We focus on stepping into the unknown, discovering new places, and building a genuine connection with the world around you.

TRVL° is not a traditional photography workshop, and that is intentional. Our journeys balance guided photography moments with space for independent exploration, creativity, and discovery, allowing photography to become both a creative tool and a way of engaging more deeply with each destination. We work closely with local photographers, tour operators, and guides to support and uplift the communities we visit, creating authentic cultural connections for our participants. If this resonates with you, you’re in the right place.
