East Greenland in late August offers an extraordinary landscape photography experience, with dramatic Arctic scenery, towering mountains, immense glaciers, and remote fjords stretching in every direction. From the colourful village of Tasiilaq to the vast wilderness surrounding the Ammassalik Island region, the landscape is raw, rugged, and almost completely untouched. Icebergs drifting through the fjords, rocky peaks, and late-summer light create endless opportunities for striking and atmospheric images.
Beyond the landscapes, East Greenland offers unique opportunities for wildlife and cultural photography. Depending on conditions, photographers may encounter Arctic wildlife including seals, whales, reindeer, and a variety of seabirds, while the late-August season also provides the possibility of photographing Greenlandic sled dog puppies. As the nights begin to lengthen, there is even a chance to witness and photograph the Northern Lights dancing above the mountains and fjords.
Our experience is made even more special by the two private lodges we use as our bases throughout the adventure. Set in spectacular and remote locations, both lodges offer a comfortable home away from home while allowing us to stay immersed in the Arctic wilderness. Each lodge has its own chef preparing all meals daily, with locally sourced ingredients helping create a memorable dining experience alongside the incredible surroundings.
Whether capturing immense icebergs floating beneath towering peaks, intimate details of Greenlandic life, playful sled dog puppies, or the Northern Lights illuminating the Arctic sky, East Greenland offers a truly unforgettable photography adventure at the edge of the world.

East Greenland Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Keflavík International Airport (Iceland) on August 18th, 2027.
Day 2: Fly to Kulusuk, East Greenland with Icelandair. This flight is included in the trip price. Overnight at the Kulusuk Hotel and sunset photography session.
Day 3: Explore an Ice Cave with private guide then catch our two private seepd boats to Tasiilaq. Check in to the lodges.
Day 4: Explore Knud Rasmussen Glacier and Ammassalik Fjord by boat.
Day 5: Photograph the incredible landscape of the Sermilik Icefjord.
Day 6: Rest day enjoying Tasiilaq, the Sled Dogs and the Flower Valley.
Day 7: Explore the area around Ikkatteq and the Johan Petersen Fjord.
Day 8: Visit Isortoq village. A remote outpost in East Greenland.
Day 9: Boat back to Kulusuk then fly back to Iceland (KEF) that same day.
Day 10: Today, August 27th, is departure day. Depending on your flight home there may be time to explore the area around Keflavik or we can transfer directly to the international airport.

What’s the accommodation like?
The two private arctic lodges are charming, traditional Greenlandic houses that have recently been renovated and are conveniently located in the center of Tasiilaq. Both houses offer easy access to the town, with the local supermarket nearby. Situated on slightly elevated ground, the houses provide beautiful views across the town, harbour, and fjord.
Together, the houses offer comfortable accommodation for groups, with single beds distributed across several bedrooms and ample storage space. The interiors feature spacious living areas furnished with comfortable sofas, flat screen TVs, stereos, and a small collection of music and books. An internet connection is available throughout the houses.
The kitchens are fully equipped for self catering and include large dining tables suitable for group meals. There are multiple bathrooms, each with flushing toilets and hot water showers.
Outside, guests can enjoy sunny verandas and porches with wide views of the harbour and surrounding fjord, making them a perfect place to relax after a day of exploring Tasiilaq and the surrounding Arctic landscape.
Fitness Level 3: Moderate to Active
The East Greenland Photography Adventure is rated 3 on the TRVL° physical requirements scale. This level includes more walking and light hiking than our other adventures. You can expect time spent exploring on foot in rural environments, which may include uneven, grassy, or muddy terrain. There may also be early morning excursions, including optional sunrise hikes on certain trips.
For East Greenland you can expect some longer walks and easy hikes, but nothing too strenuous and with very little elevation gain. East Greenland is a vast and open landscape where it is possible to walk for miles. However, most of our travel will be by boat as we venture into remote fjords. From there, we will dock and explore the surrounding areas on foot.
